  • What supermarkets are available?
We have a small Vival store and a boulangerie in the village for basic supplies. Please note they both close between 12-2pm each day. Larger supermarkets are about 15 minutes away. There will be a few opportunities for you to join Janelle when she goes there if you don't have your own transport.
  • What restaurants are available?
There are a number of restaurants in Caunes-Minervois, however their opening hours vary, depending on the season. Janelle can make reservations on your behalf.
  • What if the weather is bad?
The house has a lovely fireplace and each room has its own heater. There are plenty of spaces in the house to ensure you don't feel too locked in. No matter the weather the creative activities can still go ahead... maybe the walk in the vineyard may be postponed or we can forge on with wet weather gear.
  • How do I know what creative activity I will do and what collaborator I will have?
The collaborators/facilitators will vary depending on their availability. The creative and writing activities are able to be completed by all skill levels. Art supplies and notebooks will be provided. You also have the opportunity to opt out of these sessions and simply take time out to explore the village or read a book. No pressure.
  • What languages are spoken?
The creative retreats will be run in English but if you would like to converse in French you will find that most of the collaborators have entry level or beyond in French.
  • Are there any pets at L'Ancienne Boulangerie?
Yes, Janelle has an eight year old groodle (Golden Retriever/Poodle) named Max. His siblings are hospital care dogs and he is a gentle giant. His coat is low shedding which is supposed to be better for those with allergies.
  • How can I get there?
Caunes-Minervois is a medieval village in the South of France. Airports are located in both Toulouse (1Hr 30 mins) and Carcassonne (20 mins) from the village. If arriving via Toulouse it is best to join an airport shuttle then a 1 hr train ride to Carcassonne. From there, transfers from Carcassonne to the village can be arranged for 60€ return per person. There is also a local bus service that operates between Carcassonne and Caunes-Minervois with details available online. To avoid stressful transfers if arriving through Toulouse, it may be worth staying overnight at an airport hotel there before completing your journey. I usually stay at the IBIS Styles Blagnac which is a short walk from the airport terminal. You are welcome to book additional nights here at L'Ancienne Boulangerie before or after the retreat for only 100€ per room per night inclusive of tax and continental breakfast.
  • Can I arrive early or stay later after the creative retreat?
Yes! We would love you to stay longer with us. Simply let Janelle know when you are sending in your enquiry and she can advise you of availability. The price is only 100€ per room per night inclusive of tax and continental breakfast.
  • Is there car parking available?
There is ample free off site public car parking in Caunes Minervois. You can drop off luggage directly at the hotel before returning to one of the designated parking areas.
